Try-it Thursday
Thursdays are all about adding something new to your exercise mix. Last April, I tried running. I had never run before, but for some reason after giving birth to my son, I needed to run. In the past, I had excuses like my feet would hurt or my asthma would slow me down. I was a gym girl. I lifted weights, did the elliptical and only walked on the treadmill. I guess after giving birth naturally to two tough and tumble boys; you believe you can accomplish anything. So I used an app that coached me on running, and you know what? I ran my first 5k in June. I caught the running bug, and I'm so glad that I tried. Besides having an awesome feeling of accomplishment, running is very beneficial to your body. I was able to lose all the baby weight and some extra pounds too, tightened and toned my butt and legs and abs, and I can fit into my skinny jeans.
Have you ever wanted to try running, but didn't know where to start? There is an excellent program in the Triangle geared towards moms on all levels- Raleigh Running Mamas. One of the best ways to motivate yourself about running is to have a goal in sight. My goal was to run a 5k. On April 6 at the Wake Med Soccer park in Cary, there will be a Color Mania 5k. This is a great and fun way to accomplish your running goal. Living Social is offering a discounted rate to register ($39). This price includes registration and a t-shirt! You will want to remember your 1st race forever. Visit Color Mania 5k to register or get additional information.
Remember to post your something new below to win a free training session with Raleigh Running Mamas and please share this with your friends!

I would love to win! I just started back to the gym in January after a 3 year hiatus. I started using the C25K app four weeks ago but have really been struggling.
My something new story is about my new adventures as a first time parent. Seven weeks ago I gave birth to my beautiful son. The past seven weeks have been the most exciting, exhausting, and thrilling weeks of my life. I have learned so much that it is hard to capture it all in words. I have learned the patience that comes with calming a crying baby, the determination that comes with learning to nurse, the fear that comes with learning your baby may be sick, the pure joy that comes with seeing your baby smile back at you for the first time, and the thrill that comes with watching your baby begin to explore the world. I won't even begin to pretend that I've figured this all out, but I do know that through all the ups and downs of being a new parent, this "new" adventure has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. In order to be the healthiest and happiest mom that I can be for my baby, I've been looking for groups to join where I can learn from other moms and do something that I enjoy doing, while getting back in shape. This running group is the perfect opportunity for that. Thanks for the chance to win! :)
My something new is I'm trying to make this year, the year for ME. Yes, I am a mother of 2 kids and they will always be first on my priority list. But when they're happy and healthy, I'd like to concentrate on ME. I have found jogging/running to be my ME time. Concentrating on my stride, my breath, and my posture has really focused my mind on ME and nothing else. It has become therapeutic. I'd like to run more than I have been, which has been zero times lately. If I were with Running Mamas it would help me get my groove back with all the support a running group would offer. Having a little bit of ME time by running is all this Mama really needs. Thanks! =)
I tried spin class for the first time a few weeks ago after being very intimidated to even walk in the class. I love it and now it is my favorite class to do. Glad i took the risk to try something new!

I am trying something new this year, acceptance! I want to accept myself for who I am - my body and mind! I want to accept life as it comes and try to not sweat the small stuff. I have also been enjoying pushing myself to new and exciting places with my first new physical challenge this year, a plank challenge. I have increased my time by 10 seconds daily through February and have made it 4 minutes and 10 seconds so far, my goal being 5 minutes by the end of the month! I have also been working on my endurance and motivation as a runner, this is a journey I never would have guessed for myself!
I've walked many 5Ks but have actually never wanted to run one. Here I am, though, training to run the 5K in April. This is one of those things I will add to my bucket list only AFTER I've completed it, so that I can immediately cross it off. I can only credit the inspiration and energy of my fellow Stroller Striders for planting this idea in my head. Thanks ladies!! I really do look forward to accomplishing this challenge with you!
My new thing this is trying to eat healthier and feed my family healthier meals. My plan includes eating out less, reducing carbs, and increasing fresh foods into my diet. So far, it has been a lot of fun to learn about new cooking methods and trying new healthy foods that I never dreamed of trying, like spaghetti squash and quinoa. I have been successful for the most part in reducing eating out, but continue to struggle to reduce sugary desserts. I have also had a few successes in introducing new foods to my family who tend to be very resistant to trying new things, and found a few healthier alternatives they actually enjoy.
I'm a big fan of trying new foods. Now I need a new running routine to burn off those calories!
My something new is to start taking care of myself with healthy eating and exercise habits now that I have a son who will look to me for guidance... training to run seems like it would go along with this goal nicely!
Im going out side my comfort zone and trying a 10K!! I ran my first full 5K last year (thanks to Running Mamas) and now i want to push myself a little more and try for longer distance. I was never a runner until i started Running Mamas last year and fell in love with it. Its my time to myself to think about things and to get a good workout in :)
Hi, I would love to win a free training session as I just started a free bootcamp to get me back into shape. I haven't gotten into shape since 15 years ago. I have been putting all my efforts into my kids. No babysitter in 8 years... finished my master's degree while breastfeeding so getting in shape is life or death for me because without getting in shape now in my life, I will be getting much sicker and possibly not be able to recover! :)
