Ice Skating

A cold, crisp day. A sharp blade on the ice. The quiet of nature while imagining you are spinning in front of  an audience of people. Ice skating. It was a fun past time I enjoyed as a young girl. My family had recently moved to Massachusetts, and the highlight of our new home was the large pond behind our house. Usually after the first snow, the ice was ready for our little feet to descend upon it. It was such an invigorating feeling sailing across the ice. Inhaling the cold air and knowing mom had hot chocolate inside when our toes began to freeze. Such good memories. I haven't skated as often since that winter in Massachusetts. North Carolina winters are quite mild and indoor rinks just don't have the same effect. However, it is nice to know that you can enjoy outside ice skating in downtown Raleigh. The AT&T Raleigh Winterfest is located on the southern end of the 400 block of Fayetteville Street and is open through January 31. It costs $8 to skate and includes rentals. They offer themed days from Thursday date nights to Two for Tuesdays. Visit Raleigh Winterfest for more information. Now don't let some balmy weather get in your way, get out and ice skate!
